About the project

We are driving a strategic transformation initiative to establish a new checkout platform supporting multiple checkout models, including Self-Checkout and Managed Checkout. The platform is based on a licensed core software product, while the long-term objective is to strengthen internal ownership of operations, support, and further development. To enable this transformation and the future responsibility model, we are building a new cross-functional team with strong architecture, delivery, and engineering capabilities.

About the job

As Senior Solution Architect / Senior Platform Architect, you will define the target architecture for the new checkout platform and guide key technology decisions throughout the transformation. In this role, you will contribute to the technical setup of the future team structure, support the transition towards internal ownership, and ensure that the platform is scalable, maintainable, and operationally ready.

About the tasks

• Define and govern the end-to-end architecture for the checkout platform across application, integration, data, and infrastructure layers.
• Drive strategic technology decisions in line with business objectives, operational requirements, and long-term maintainability.
• Provide architectural leadership across the technology stack, including Flutter, Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, MQTT, gRPC, Azure Functions, Docker.
• Support the setup of the project and engineering team by establishing technical standards, design principles, and collaboration models - incl. cross-department alignment and the implementation and monitoring of ALDI-wide development guidelines/requirements.
• Act as a senior advisor to stakeholders and support the transition towards internal ownership of operations and further development.

The knowledge I own:

• At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in solution architecture, platform architecture, or a comparable senior architecture role.
• Proven experience designing complex enterprise platforms and distributed systems in cloud and on-premise container-based environments.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, integration patterns, and modern platform architectures.
• Experience in architectural governance, technical decision-making, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders at senior level.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on architectural guidance.
• Fluency in English.
